Installation

1. Drape the chain over the tire (or both tires of a dual-tire setup), making sure that the center chain is between the tires and that the side chain with the lever is on the outside. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

2. Reach around behind the tire(s) and fasten the ends of the chain together.

3. Move back to the front of the tire(s) and fasten the ends of the chain together using the built-in lever.

4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Feature Review Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains for Wide Base and Dual Tires

Hi everyone, it's Evangeline, and today, we'll be taking a look at our Titan Chain Twist Link Snow Tire Chains for your dual tires right here at etrailer. Now, your dual tires have limited options when it comes to getting that extra traction on the road, but even with the limited options, we definitely have options for your different situations. If you need a lot of traction on a lot of ice, you might be considering the tire chains that have the V-bars or the cleats. Now, if you're expecting a lot of snow or a lot of mud, that's where these twist links come in handy. So we'll talk about that as well as mentioning other options for your dual tires for your different situations. So these are heavy-duty chains in a ladder pattern, so for some of your other tire chains, you can get them as a diamond pattern, you don't really have that ability though for dual tires.

So that ladder pattern is gonna be your traditional type of tire chains, you are gonna hear a babump babump on the road, but you'll also be feeling that grip on the road in the snow and the ice. Now, these tire chains are made of a low carbon steel, which means that they're extra durable, extra sturdy. Some other tire chains use an alloy like a manganese nickel alloy, those are more focused on corrosion resistance and handling the salt and the ice, this can do that too, but again, its focus is durability for those rocks and for the ice, which means if you do wanna use this for multiple seasons, please just double check your chains before putting them on your tire to make sure they hadn't corroded or anything like that. You can also get a version of these twist link chains with cam, so it's gonna look pretty much the same, they're just gonna have extra cam tensioners. I personally recommend getting the cam version, because it's gonna be faster and easier to tension things down, but also, because you'll have the included cam tensioner tool, which will make it easier for you to install that middle connection.

Speaking of that middle connection, that's what makes these chains are designed for dual tires, different from those chains that are designed for single tires. You're gonna have to connect it in the front, in the back, as well as in the middle. That can be tricky, but I have a special trick for that. So what I do is I put the link that needs to be connected right over your cam tensioner and use this to feed it through your tires. So using the tool, just pull the chains through, and then you can connect the other hook.

Now, these tensioners are not included with your tire chain, these are gonna be an add-on accessory, that way you have constant tension all throughout. Even if your chains are shifting around, this is shifting with it. Your chains will arrive in a canvas bag like this, and since we do send your chains for your axle, you will get two of these canvas bags. Some other chains arrive in hard shell or soft shell cases, which I personally prefer, but this is still a great way to store it inside your truck for whenever you need it. So quick summary is if you are looking for a tire chain that has a smoother ride than square links of a similar design, or if you're expecting a lot of deep snow and mud, but you still want that heavy-duty traction that can handle off-road situations or rocks or ice, then this is gonna be a great option for you, this was the ladder style chain that is designed with these twist links for your dual tires..

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for 2003 Jeep Wrangler with 31x10.5x15 tires
For your stock height 2003 Jeep Wrangler with the tire size you provided, I recommend the Glacier Tire Chains # TC3227 you referenced. Designed for both on- and off-road, these chains will provide a perfect fit for your Jeeps tires. These chains come in pairs and are economically-priced. Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for the proper use of snow tire chains. I have provided a link to our FAQ page on Glacier Tire Chains.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 31x10.5x15 Tire
Yes, they will. I checked with Titan and the item # TC2828CAM will fit a 31x10.5x15 tire. That tire size is equivalent to a 267/76/R15 tire. These come in a pair and you'll need one set per axle.

  • Recommended Tire Chains For 1999 Toyota 4Runner
I did some research in the owner's manual for your 1999 4Runner and was unable to find any reference to the tire chain restrictions other than they are to only be used on the rear wheels. The tire chains I recommend for your tires are the Titan Chain Twist-Link Snow Tire Chains, part # TC3227. To make sure the chains stay on the vehicle I recommend using rubber adjusters, part # PW105. These provide an added step for securing the chains when installed.

  • Correct Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains for 31x10.5-15
Th correct Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains for Wide Base and Dual Tires for 31x10.5-15 tires is part # TC3227, not part # TC3210. These are excellent options with twist links for great traction in deep snow and ice. There are no cams to come loose either so they will be very reliable. That said, we do recommend adding the Titan Chain RA10 Rubber Tire Chain Adjusters part # TCOA2 to ensure they stay tight.
